Moving

They said go abroad, get a better education

I said “OK”

They said get a job, be independent

I said “OK”

But they don’t know moving is a pain

Because –

You live away from home, waiting to come home

When you are home, home does not feel like home

You move back thinking that’s now your home

But moving does not feel like home

One minute, you’re finishing an assignment

Next minute, you’re meeting a friend

One minute, you’re finding a job

Next minute, you’re fixing a doorknob

Days have passed, winters have arrived

You’re hibernating to your hive

Christmas is here, then is New Year

Before you know it, it’s a new semester

You repeat the cycle all over again

Knowing moving is a pain

You’ve lived a life you once dreamed of

But don’t know where the time flew off

And finally,

After four years and nine houses,

Three best friends and Jerry the mouse,

You are now wearing that blouse

Oh wow! You have a job?!

But, in New York – AWW MAN :(

You’ll need to repeat the cycle all over again

Because moving is a pain.

But maybe – just maybe –

Moving is the life you’ve built,

The home you’ve made for yourself.
